Fruit Bat Claws

There are various species of bat in Sri Lanka… the largest being the Flying Fox or Fruit Bat. You can see them hanging from trees during the day, and occasionally you will see them in flight at dusk. They are impressively large and take on the same form of Batman’s chest logo in flight.

They can fly up to 50 miles to find food but always return to their original location. Many younger bats will fall from trees and are promptly retrieved by park rangers who will then carry them around on sticks and ask for tips.

Since a bat’s claws naturally close when relaxed they can sleep upside down whilst hanging from a branch.
